The appointment of a new ODI captain for the South Africa series was the big news last night, and it was none other than Rohit Sharma. The BCCI has made another shocking move, replacing Virat Kohli as the Indian ODI skipper and announcing Rohit Sharma will captain both the T20I and the Odi formats, while Virat will remain the Test captain. This statement came as a surprise because the team management was supposed to announce the ODI team that will play three ODIs in South Africa.
However, it is now stated that due to the heavy workload, they have decided to have two captains in accordance with the different format. It was clear that not winning any ICC events and having poor batting form was enough to call Virat Kohli’s captaincy into question, and the result is in front of us. According to the sources, the BCCI gave Virat Kohli 48 hours. But, for some reason, they were unable to get a clear response from him, so they handed over the ODI captaincy to Rohit Sharma in accordance with the BCCI’s decision of Multi-Captain for Multi-Format.
The decision surprised Indian fans, and many of them vented their displeasure on Twitter, so we’ve compiled some of their responses.
Soon after the BCCI’s decision, the hashtag # ShameonBCCI trended on Twitter. So what are your views on this decision? You can leave us a comment in the comment section.
