Australia won the day-night second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval on Monday by 275 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. England were all out for 192 in the fourth session of the pink-ball match, chasing a daunting win target of 468.

In England’s awful second innings batting showing, Chris Woakes’ 44 was the highest individual score, but Jos Buttler persevered for a time with a stubborn 26 from 207 balls.

“They showed some great resilience today,” Steve Smith, Australia’s stand-in captain, remarked about their opponents.

“Jos played really good innings, he faced over 200 balls. “We were trying to stay as calm as we could out in the middle and just thought, a couple of good balls and a couple of wickets and we’ll keep going.”

Jhye Richardson, who took 5-42, was the best of the Australian bowlers. Marnus Labuschagne of Australia was named man-of-the-match for his 103 runs and 51 runs in first and second innings respectively.

Ex-cricketers and fans flooded social media with adulation after Australia won the pink ball test match.
