South Africa won the first ODI match by 31 runs against the KL Rahul-led Indian team. After winning the toss, Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma chose to bat first on a slow pitch. The Indian team went with the strategy of five specialist bowlers. For the first 20 overs, it looked like the decision to bat first had backfired on South Africa. At one stage, they were 68/3, and looked in trouble. But the massive partnership between skipper Bavuma and Van Der Dussen of 202 runs was the main highlight of the match, and both the batsmen struck their centuries, respectively. Bavuma scored 110 of 143 balls and Van Der Dussen scored a fantastic 129 runs of 96 balls and helped their team reach a more than par score of 297/4 in their 50 overs.

Chasing the target, India lost the wicket of skipper KL Rahul for 16 runs, but after that, both Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli looked in great touch, and appeared to be on track. Both batsmen scored half centuries. Dhawan scored 79, while Kohli was dismissed shortly after reaching his half-century for a score of 51. They both scored 92 runs for the second wicket, but once they were out, none of the Indian batters looked comfortable against the South African bowlers’ discipline. Shardul Thakur (50 off 43 balls) tried at the end, but he received no support from the other end. Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Andile Phehlukwayo each took three wickets for South Africa.

Indian fans were dissatisfied with the way KL Rahul led the team and were vocal about it on Twitter. KL Rahul’s captaincy has been criticised by fans for his decision-making, team selection, and lack of energy on the field. As a result, here are some fan tweets.
