IPL 2021: Another set of shocking events that took place in the Sunrisers camp a few days back was the sacking of the skipper Warner from the team. It is hard to imagine a player who has lead his team to a title win and 3 playoffs being dropped.
Warner has been consistent with the bat throughout his career in the IPL editions making him the 5th highest run getter in the history of the tournament, leading the charts for the foreign players. It was disheartening to see him play the role of the water boy in the match against Rajasthan Royals. His credentials don’t end here as he has won the illustrated Orange Cap twice in 2015 and 2017.
The decision to drop him as the captain would have been justified had they let him play as a player and hand over the captaincy to Kane. Instead, the SRH management dropped him from the team. The selection of Nabi in the team was regarded as the requirement of a foreign all-rounder in the squad. This statement could have been justified had they used his services when all their mainstream bowlers were being hit for the cleaners. Instead of Warner, the inclusion of Jason Roy would not have raised these many eyebrows at least.
The rough patch of SRH continues as Butler plundered their bowling enough to hand them another comprehensive defeat. One single innings can not define who Warner is and how he contributes to the team. We hope to see a rejuvenated Warner if and when he is given a chance to play for this franchise in this edition. He was among the top three run getters of SRH this season as well. Wishing good luck to Kane Williamson and hoping that SRH gets their team selection in check, because if this chaos continues nobody can save SRH from languishing at the bottom of the points table.
