Then-president of BCCI NKP Salve brought a proposal to Lata didi to sing in a fundraiser concert for Indian Cricketers. As one of the biggest fans of cricket at that time, Lata accepted to perform a pro-bono concert which was scheduled in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. Lata performed her magic for two hours in front of the crowd. The stadium was jam packed with everyone including the likes of captain Kapil dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar. The concert was a hit, and it raised enough funds to provide all 14 members of the squad one lakh each.

In response to this beautiful gesture from Lata Mangeshkar, BCCI decided to provide two VIP seats reserved for her in any stadium in the country where India played international matches. Lata too was very happy with this return gift from BCCI, as she watched almost every game in Wankhede stadium in the 70’s and 80’s.
