The streak is finally over; Sunday, October 24th, was a momentous day for Pakistan’s Cricket, as they finally won their first match against India in the ICC World Cup stage. Cricket fans watched the stunning success of the Men in Green over the Indian team by 10 wickets and 13 balls to spare at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In an evening game, Pakistan won the toss and asked India to bat first, citing the due factor in the second inning. On paper, India’s opening pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul looked powerful, but who would have thought that both of them would go out cheaply? With an in-swinging delivery, Pakistani speedster Shaheen Afridi dismissed both openers, Rohit for a duck and Rahul for just three runs. That was the turning point in the game for Pakistan, and no Indian batsman has looked comfortable against Pakistani bowlers since. Only Virat Kohli’s 57 off 49 balls and Rishabh Pant’s 39 off 30 balls helped India to a decent total of 151 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 over.

Pakistan’s target of 152 was not up to par. Pakistan’s openers demonstrated the same. Babar Azam and his partner Rizwan made a mockery of the target, thrashing the Indian side by a ten-wicket victory, their highest in terms of wickets, and the first time an Indian team had lost a match by ten wickets in an ICC T20I. Overall, the Men in Green put in a strong showing against an overconfident Indian team. Babar Azam (68 off 52 balls) and his partner Rizwan (79 off 55 balls) both contributed to their team’s first triumph over their arch-rivals. Shaheen Afridi was named “Man of the Match” for his 3-31 bowling effort, which included all three Indian top-order wickets. Just as Pakistan’s lossing streak came to an end, social media was swamped with various responses from around the world. So, let’s have a look at some tweets from cricket fans all over the world.
