The IPL auction 2022 is finally over and all the teams have got their set of players. Some teams got what they wanted, and some didn’t.
But one thing is certain: There will be some new faces on all of the teams. Some players got an unexpected amount, and some big stars went unsold. The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, are one of the biggest sporting icons in Indian cricket history. They have a massive fan base not only in the southern part of India, but all over the world. But what went wrong for them in the auction that “Boycott Chennai Super Kings” became a social media trend? The fans who used to worship the team and some of the players started hating them.
Is it because CSK didn’t bid for Suresh Raina?
There might be a few reasons behind that. Some fans are tweeting in favour of Suresh Raina, saying that CSK didn’t even try to get him back. The CSK legend who had a crucial role in the victory for CSK over the years, had to face such kind of ignorance from it’s own team.
But the actual reason is something else. And that’s about the sentiments of the Tamilians. Actually, during the Sri Lankan civil war, it was very costly, killing and disappearing over 200,000+ civilians and 50,000+ fighters over the course of the war, mainly from the Tamil minority. The “Tamil Centre for Human Rights” recorded that from 1983 to 2004, 47,556 Tamil civilians were killed in the war. And that’s the biggest reason why the Tamilians don’t want to see any players from the Sri Lankan team in the Chennai Super Kings.
